Summer nearly over already and OPEN STUDIOS!

It’s been a good old while since I last posted… life is VERY full.

I’ve been teaching Bikeability (road safety on bikes to Years 5 & 6) in South Devon; which is GREAT but it’s exhausting and doesn’t leave a lot of energy for much else!

I then had a few days off when I went to WOMAD at Charlton Park which I have to say was the best festival I’ve ever been to! Highlights included going on the big wheel which was part of the vintage fairground which was there… from the top we had an amaaaazing view of the whole site; the festival site flags were so beautiful they gave me internal butterflies! I sadly didn’t take a camera with me… Musical highlights were Portico Quartet – I’ve seen them twice now & both times they were incredible & unlike anything else I’ve ever heard. Kimmo Pohjonen was……. bizarre! Amazing! If you’ve allways wanted to see someone playing accordian as though they are locked in a spooky dungeon making tractor sounds then this is the guy for you! Patrick Wolf played a very beautiful & honest accoustic set. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/gallery/2012/jul/30/womad-2012-day-two-three-in-pictures#/?picture=393790978&index=5 Dizraeli and the Small Gods with Bellatrix on beatbox were also fabulous. I’d never seen anyone doing beatboxing before – WOW!!! Hot Water a band from S Africa made us dance & dance…. I could go on and on!

Then I had to dash back home for a horrid operation on my knee which had me feeling totally rubbish for at least a couple of weeks when I would have like to be doing lots of artwork but instead had the Olympics on (which I mostly slept through!) … and before I knew it, Open Studios are almost here! I did manage to work on some new silver jewellery which will be having it’s first outing at these two Open Studios events.

SO. I’m taking part in TWO open Studios events – yes, I am MAD…

Bye for now!

South West Contemporary Art Fair 2010.

This year is absolutelly flying by, and suddenly, the South West Contemporary Art Fair, (SWCAF) which I signed up for nearly a year ago, is only a week away!
This year it is being held at the Civic Hall in Totnes, on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th October, from 10:30 – 5 both days.

Please visit the website for a list of artists taking part this year: www.swcaf.co.uk

This is the first time I’ve done anything like this before with my pictures (I know from doing various shows with my jewellry & textiles how exhausting they are!!!) so am a little bit nervous, but very much looking forward to meeting lots of people.

garden slug & snail art as pudding project

My first year in our garden is proving to be fruitful, we’ve been eating the most delicious mini cucumbers for a couple of weeks now, and our sugar snap peas are doing better than I could ever have imagined! The fennel are starting to swell up, I’ve just pulled up the first of the carrots & beetroot, & the sunflowers are opening one by one.

The slugs & snails are also enjoying themselves. I know they like to eat paper as well as my veg, so have decided to give them a bit of pudding to munch on after a good helping of greens, in the form of bits of my painted & doodled-on paper which go into the creation of my collages.

I thought that their chewing could make some interesting patterns, textures & holes!
So I’ve scattered a few bits of paper in strategic places around the garden & am waiting to see the results…

doodle pen-pal update!

I found a doodle pen-pal by looking at ‘doodle’ groups on flickr. I found an inspiring artist calles Ines Seidel in Germany & we have now been exchanging artwork through the post (aaaah! I love the post!) since the beginning of March. I’m very excited about this & maybe one day we’ll get all our work together, & have an exhibition of it all in order!
I was going to attach some pictures butam having problems with this at the moment…
