Doodle Pen-pal

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

I know I’ve posted this blog before, but I’m STILL looking!

I would love to find someone who would be interested in being my doodle pen-pal; the way I see it is it being like writing letters but replacing the letters with a doodle. It would be a kind of conversation in artwork. I think it could be a really fastinating project, with some interesting work to come out of it. I think having an exhibition showing the whole ‘conversation’ would be great - of course, this conversation could carry on for maybe years if we both enjoyed it & were inspired by each others work.

I imagine the work to be anything that you want it to be - a photograph, a few lines on a scrap of paper, a more substantial piece of work… but I do feel that its important that it’s a conversation, & that the work you post to the other person would be in some way a reaction to whatever they had last sent to you. Even adding to what they had sent you.

Is anyone out there interested? I really think it could be a very exciting thing to do so get in touch if you think you’d like to take part.

new Devon collages

This is some new collage work that I’ve been doing lately since moving to the edge of Dartmoor.

“It’s not what I expected!”

Home again home again after a packed busy weekend away doodling, partying & admiring beautiful Devonshire landscape.

My doodle at Sidcot Arts Center on Friday night went really well, I had a most beautiful space to doodle in. It’s a brand new building & I was doodling on the landing of an oval-shaped stairwell. To my left was a column of windows which changed colour as the sun went down, to my right were window-shaped sunshine-&-shadows of the trees outside (before the sun went down!) & in the middle was my long (not quite sure exactly how long but possisbly 3 meters…?) bit of paper to doodle on!

It was a fantastic experience & I met some really loveley people. I’am REALLY looking foreward to going back on October 10th (the national Big Draw Day) to finish off the doodle & do another one.

whooooosh!

There, that’s time whizzing by, faster than I can keep up with.

Lots going on.

An exhibition of the Artade artists at the Here & Now gallery, Killligrew street, Falmouth, on til 24th May as I remember.

Another Artade exhibition at the Joy gallery, 18 Southgate street, Chichester, on for a week Monday 18th May - Saturday 23rd May.

Apart from that, I’ve been busy making a dress for friends wedding next weekend, I made a simple halter neck dress out of some purplish linen & printed it (after making a stencil from paper) with fabric paints & then stitched over the top in silver. I took a photo but it’s not that good:

Here are some (also not very good!) photos of some recent canvases I’ve done:

cats eyes & the things they open doors to…

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Yesterday as I cycled to work I wizzed past a couple of cats eyes on the side of the road & I thought to meself ”tomorrow I shall cycle slowly along here & pick ‘em up”. So today I did just that. but what I wasn’t expecting was for there to be a loveley proportioned silvery washer to be nustling up against the cats eyes (there were 4 in the end! oh lucky me) which I thought to be a real bonus.
BUT! the joy was not to end there.

As I cycled through Lanner I spyed another washer which I stopped & picked up. When I got to my studio & emptied out my bulging pocket I discovered that the 2 washers I’d picked up were IDENTICAL in their diameter & size of hole! Not only that but they are also both silvery, rather than the rustyness that most washers I find tend to be.

Now that really did make my day.
